Les Raudieres is a charming and quirky 3 bedroom holiday cottage set over three floors in an outstanding location in the Loire Valley. The cottage which is part of a larger farm complex dates back to the 16th century and combines many original features with all the modern day comforts you will need for your holiday.

The cottage is situated in the beautiful, historic village of Le Chatelier and overlooks a magnificent privately owned chateau, parts of which date back to the 11th century including the moat, drawbridge, portcullis and keep. The chateau itself is 17th century. Le Chatelier is also home to a prehistoric ‘dolmen’, an ancient burial site.
| Le Chatelier is nestled between two villages, both just a mile away. Paulmy is very quiet but Neuilly Le Brignon has an excellent butcher and for all your other needs there are three towns, Ligueil, Descartes and Le Grand Pressigny, all less than 5 miles away, each featuring a weekly market, boulangeries, patisseries, charcuteries, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and much more. Descartes regularly has live music nights all the year round. |
Le Chatelier is halfway between Tours and Poitiers making it an ideal location from which to explore all that the Loire Valley has to offer. All the Loire Chateaux are within reach, with a number less than a 30 minute drive away. The Loire region is a food lovers dream with vibrant markets teaming with seasonal produce and numerous vineyards producing excellent wines. Visit local farms where you can see goat’s cheese being made, select home-cured meats, buy fresh milk and thickly churned cream or sample foie gras. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are cycle paths, footpaths, lakes for swimming, rivers for fishing and canoeing and forests for foraging, equestrian centres, golf courses, horse racing, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, theme parks.
Almost every weekend there will be at least one local village hosting a brocante or a fete, often serving excellent value meals, eaten communally in the open air. In summer there are outdoor concerts in parks, open-air cinema in chateau grounds, medieval festivals, light shows, the list goes on.
Tailor-made For You
Often holidaymakers take several days to orientate themselves and discover all there is to see or do and consequently miss out. When you book with us, we will send you an optional, short questionnaire to discover your interests and will put together a range of suggestions for things to do and places to see just for you. This may include hidden gems off the beaten track, advance notice of concerts, or theatre shows to ensure you get the tickets you want, the best vineyards to visit, restaurants with table reservation details or where to buy your fishing licence.
After that it is up to you to do as much or as little as you want. It’s your holiday after all.

Whether dining inside or out you will be spoilt for choice for local wine. cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables.
The kitchen is like a home from home. The large, range cooker has an outsized oven and five gas hobs. There is a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, toaster, fridge/freezer, cafetieres and all the crockery and cutlery you will need during your stay. It looks out onto a charming courtyard and steps leading up to the main garden space.
You will find fresh milk. coffee, tea, bottled water and a bottle of wine on arrival. Further provisions can be provided at an additional cost by prior arrangement.
The largest of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor and opens out onto the courtyard. It has a triple wardrobe, chest of drawers, blanket chest, mirror and dressing table & chair. It features an en-suite bathroom with bath, overhead shower, sink unit and toilet
There is an ensuite bathroom to the main bedroom with an overbath shower.
The second double bedroom is directly off the lounge. It is smaller and of a typical cottage style with wooden beams and a sloping ceiling. It has a chest of drawers, canvas wardrobe and two bedside tables complete with bedside lamps. |

Stairs from the lounge lead up to a third double bedroom. Whilst it is private and self-contained, its ‘open-plan’ aspect may not suit everyone. There is a double and a single bed here for your use. |

Also off the lounge is a shower room with a toilet and sink unit.
All bed linen and towels are provided. |

The garden is on two levels with beautiful stone steps separating the courtyard from the lawned area to the rear of the lounge. It is equipped with two sets of tables and chairs for al-fresco dining. 4 sun loungers are also provided for your use.
The cottage is on a quiet country lane. There is parking for two cars directly on the lane outside the house.
In our opinion, the stairs throughout the house and garden make it unsuitable for young children and people with mobility difficulties. |
Your hosts, Jim and Sandra live and work at Le Bar de l’Union in Paulmy and will be on hand for any additional help or assistance you may need.
Night falls around the house.
